School jacket:
Mullingar Community College has a black school jacket with a School crest. No other jacket is permitted in school.
PE UNIFORM
Mullingar Community College has a PE uniform for all incoming students.
The track is a light blue and navy jacket with a school crest with navy tracksuit bottoms and a blue polo shirt. It is available at local stockists. Runners are mandatory for PE.
PARENT TEACHER MEETINGS
Regular Parent Teacher meeting are held and every effort is made, through parent programmes and lectures to help parents take an active interest in their children’s education.
ATTENDANCE/PUNCTUALITY
In Mullingar Community College we pride ourselves with looking after student welfare and a big part of this would be student attendance in school. Good attendance/ punctuality in school ensures students get the best from school life i.e. academically, socially and emotionally.
Attendance is monitored twice a day, morning and lunch time, if students are absent parents/guardians will be contacted by phone call or text.
Parents must inform
the school of reason for absence via the School Journal which must be given to the Class tutor or Year Head.
DISCIPLINE
Our policy is to approach discipline positively. There is a code of conduct combining firmness and relying increasing on self- discipline and responsibility
as
students move up throughout the school. We have a tutor/year head system operating in the school and parents are encouraged to contact their son/daughter’s Tutor or Year head in relation to matter of student welfare. A copy of the school Code of conduct is given to parents and is fully explained to students in the School journal.
HOMEWORK AND STUDY
Parents have a vital role in ensuring that students study regularly. Homework is an essential part of the learning process. The revision of class work in very beneficial to all the students. Homework is given every day. It may take the form of oral work such as learning verbs, formulae or lines of poetry or it may take the form of written practice exercises in maths, essays etc.
Students must record their homework in the school journal. Guidelines for homework and study time
First years: Up to 2 hours per night Second and third years: 2-3 hours per night Seniors: 3.5 hours per night.
Mullingar Community College provides classes on Study skills to all incoming 1st
years.
