CONTACT DETAILS
The school must be able to contact parents at all times, especially in an emergency. Parents must supply a current and active phone no. and address. The school must be notified of any changes to either. Mullingar Community College also operates a text messaging system to contact parents with information from time to time. All parents are asked to ensure that the school has an up to date mobile phone number.
THE HOME SCHOOL LIAISON SCHOOL JOURNAL
Every student must have a school journal. This is a record of their school activity and a means for parents and teachers to communicate. Students are expected to have their school journal with them at all times. It is used to keep a record of class work and student behaviour throughout the year. It also outlines our Code of Conduct.
REPORTS
School reports are sent home a week after all formal exams ie in October, Summer and “Mock” exams. Reports contain subject results and grades and a teacher comment concerning progress.
PREFECT/MENTORING SYSTEM Mullingar
Community College operates a Prefect/
Mentoring programme whereby senior students are selected to become prefects or mentors. The students receive leadership training and advice on how to deal with issues that may arise. Subsequently they are assigned a small group of 1st
year students whom they meet once
a week. This has proven to be a very effective forum for networking, discussing hopes and fears and identifying instances of bullying.
AWARDS
Mullingar Community College recognises the achievements of students by operating an awards system. Students achievements are recorded in their journals. The Year Head in conjunction with the tutors and subject teachers will then award students certificates of achievements throughout the year and students who achieve the most awards in subjects or extra-curricular activities may then be awarded a term/end of year award at our annual awards ceremony which is held in May of each year.
COORDINATOR The Home School Liaison Coordinator (HSCL) is the link between the home and the school and plays a very important role in building partnership with parents/ guardians and teachers. The purpose of this partnership is to enhance pupils’ learning opportunities and promote their retention in the education system. This partnership further aims to provide support and to empower parents in the education of their children.
Throughout the school year, the HSCL organises a variety of classes and courses for parents.
Our Home School Liaison Co-Ordinator is Ms Bowe and she can be contacted on 086 0414620.
