he stepped up to help with El Baldiniho’s performance for eight to 16- year-olds at the council’s Summer Activate club in the village hall. Cllr Rogers said: “This was a real bonus to being mayor! I’ve always

wanted to know how to do card tricks and really hadn’t expected that I would have a chance to learn magic as part of one of my mayoral ‘du- ties’. The activities offered on the Activate programme are really varied and I am sure that, like me, the children will have been entertaining all their friends with their new found skills – while wearing the snazzy T- shirts they made.”

A SPATE of yobbish behaviour in East Peckham during the summer has included horse and cart racing on the playing fields and motorbike chases around three roads. Parish councillors were told

that complaints had been made to the police and that the van- dalism and anti-social behav- iour around the Jubilee Hall playing fields and car park was costing a great deal of time and council tax payers’ money as well. It was also causing nuisance

and disturbance to residents of Bramley, Pippin and Russett Roads, where motorbike racing

had taken place. Other reports included thefts

of tools and vandalism at the al- lotments, motor-bike racing on the playing fields, suspected drug dealing, littering, bonfires and broken bottles. In addition, a hedge had been

set on fire, the street snooker had been vandalised and two deep holes had been dug on the playing fields. Councillors resolved to look

into the operation of the CCTV system at the car park and con- sider upgrading it. Training in its use would be provided to three councillors as soon as possible.
