Town Talk
Local MP Tracey Crouch has given her sup- port to a martial arts club in Snodland. The Matt Fiddes Medway school in
SAMAYS, at Holmesdale Technology College, is run by Jay Cullen, of Malling Road. The club is a franchise of one of the biggest
martial arts organisations in the country. Jay said: “To run a martial arts school on
your own is very difficult and it is much easier to have the support of a big organisation.” Jay became interested in taekwondo when
he was eight years old and has been to inter- ested inmartial arts ever since. Hehas lived in Snodland for nine years with wife, Tara, and children, Harrison (9), and Neve (five). There are classes at SAMAYS every Tues- day. Juniors, from five to 11 or 12, meet from
from 6pm to 6.45pm, with adults afterwards. “It builds up the confidence of the young-
sters,” he said. “They did not know each other when they started but they havemadefriends, as have the parents.” He invited Ms Crouch to call in because of
her interest in local clubs and organisations, and she is pictured with the juniors. Jay, who is manager of the Autoglass office
in Tonbridge, said the pupils have regular gradings, take part in the southern champi- onships each year and are attending the British championships at Stourbridge, Birm- ingham, on November 10. Anybody interested in joining can turn up at
SAMAYS at 6pm on Tuesdays or call Jay on 07780 118191.
Fishermen remember Bill
A CHEQUE for £315 is to be presented to Maidstone Hospital after a fishing competition in memory of long-serving member and trustee of SnodlandWork- ingmen’s Club, Bill Wells. Bill died in the hospital in
2008 and because fishing was one of his many interests, the club decided to hold an annual competition in his memory. His son Mick is pictured pre- senting the BillWells Memorial Trophy to D. Lockwood, with a 206lbs 12oz haul, at the Or- chard Place Fishing Lakes at Paddock Wood. Second was Steven Peters (171lbs 8oz) and third was Graham Flint (165lbs 4oz). The competition was organised by Toddy Imms, Ian Cunliffe and daughter, Rebecca, and Malcolm Peddle.
