ASBESTOS is one of the strongest natural fibres known to man and has been used extensively in the UK for over 100 years, particularly in the building trade due to its heat resistance and strength. Although it is now illegal to use Asbestos in the construction or refurbishment of any premises, many thousands of tons were used in the past, and much of it is still in place. Latest UK Law requires all commercial buildings to have a register (usually as a result of a survey) to show where any asbestos is in a building and how the owner intends to “manage” it. There is no such law for domestic property, but
particularly dangerous and must be avoided.
Problems often occur when undertaking DIY jobs, or when contractors are working in a house. Drilling and disturbing asbestos materials is particularly dangerous and so identifying where it is in a building is extremely important. And being used in over 3000 building applications, it is quite likely to be in most houses.
