ISSUE 47 – SPRING 2013 CITY®

City Security – The magazine that promotes security issues nationwide

Sharing ideas on counter terrorism and security with the US

s the days lengthen and the temperature rises, we welcome you to the spring edition of City Security magazine. The theme of this edition is

counter terrorism with a distinctly transatlantic flavour and we bring you 40 pages of articles sharing best practice, innovation and interest from thought leaders from both sides of the ocean.

We follow one police officer’s journey from London to the streets of New York and continue the US theme with Joe Bruno, Commissioner of the New York Office of Emergency Management, who provides an insight into the response to Hurricane Sandy. The transatlantic challenge of security is analysed by John Davies, Chairman of the BSIA and we cover the work of OSAC, which promotes cooperation between private security interests world- wide and the US Department of State. More than ten years after 9/11, we investigate the changing face of terrorism and the technological and other security advances.

Continuing the well-received series of interviews with influential industry thought leaders, we speak with the Chief Constable of the British Transport Police, Andy Trotter OBE, QPM on the highs and lows of policing the rail transport system from Inverness to Truro.

Closer to home, we have articles on public order policing, threat analysis and the use of Explosive Detection Dogs. We welcome back to the pages of City Security Chief Superintendent Chris Greaney of the Metropolitan Police, with an informative article on Operation Withern and the aftermath of the London Riots.

City Security magazine is proud to be a media partner at IFSEC International at the NEC, Birmingham and the Counter Terrorism Expo at London’s Olympia, where the magazine will be on display.
