Portsmouth Marriott – the complete events and entertainment package

Well situated to attract guests this summer who wish to enjoy all the waterborne activities such as sailing and rib rides in the Solent, including the varied action and entertainment at the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week 2013 regatta, the 174-bedroom Portsmouth Marriott Hotel combines memorable events and team building with meetings, accommodation and being an ideal venue for award ceremonies and gala dinners

Working with three event companies, the hotel has developed excellent connections with the local attractions and acts as an ideal base for relaxation after a day’s sightseeing.

Portsmouth has a wealth of naval history at the Historic Dockyard, from HMS Victory and HMS Warrior to the brand new and just re- opened Mary Rose museum. Along the coast at Southsea are the historic D-Day Museum and the Royal Marines Museum, which are preparing for next year’s 100th anniversary of World War One and the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Both the city and village of Southwick, a little further afield, played an integral role in planning the vast military operation.

“Conference business is booming too, as clients experience the excellent service and facilities,“ said Jon Fisher, director of sales. “Our associates have received fantastic feedback and we are

experiencing client repeat bookings. A new promotion offers one-goes-free in 13 guests, to show that 2013 – and the number 13 – is lucky for some.

“We also offer a popular Green meeting promotion. The hotel has been recognised by Tourism South East for the second year running with a gold award for recycling and environmental initiatives. For every meeting held for 30 guests or more we plant a tree in one of five new forests, as part of The Woodland Trust Queen’s Jubilee scheme. Clients like this environmental contribution and, to date, 40 trees have been planted.“

The hotel has free secure 24hr WiFi in lobbies, so guests coming in for a Starbucks’ coffee can catch up on emails or browse social media. Many guests opt for the business breakfast, which costs £10 and is served from 8.30-10am, Monday to Friday. Equally popular are business

lunches in the AA Rosette award-winning Sealevel restaurant and lounge (pictured). If pressed for time, guests can select a speedy option.

Christmas party planners already checking out venues and events can look at early bird deals for a selection of Marriott party nights, including tribute nights with ABBA, Ollie Murs and a special Saturday Night Fever party. Those booking a party of 30 people or more by August 31 receive a complimentary overnight stay on a bed-and-breakfast basis for the organiser.

“The hotel is ideal for all aspects of business and leisure life, from meeting rooms with natural daylight, air conditioning, spacious and brilliant service, to restaurant and lounge areas to relax, meet and network with friends colleagues and clients,“ added Fisher.

With a choice of 11 meeting rooms, the largest of which comfortably accommodates up to 350 guests, the hotel lobby has been re-invented to meet the changing needs of today’s local, UK and international travellers via the introduction of the ’Greatroom’ concept. This design has transformed the existing public space into comfortable and inviting zones.

Just off the M27, five miles from Portsmouth train station and Portsmouth International Port, Southampton Airport is 25 minutes away. Visitors also enjoy the hotel’s proximity to Gunwarf Quay’s retail outlets and the Spinnaker Tower. The A3 Hindhead tunnel has reduced the travel time to and from London to 1.5 hours.
