• International tax practitioner Alan Richardson has joined Grant Thornton UK LLP as a partner focusing on international and corporate tax in the Thames Valley. Richardson, who will be based in Grant Thornton UK's Reading office, joins


a growing tax team in Reading and Oxford and has extensive experience, both in the UK and in Australia. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Richardson was at Ernst & Young for 15 years where he developed his career in the UK and Australia. His clients include inbound groups, FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 groups, AIM-listed groups, private equity backed groups and large privately- owned groups. He also has significant experience of running global compliance programs for international groups making sure that filing obligations in each location are managed and deadlines met.


• The Guildford office of accountancy and business advisory firm, BDO LLP, has promoted assurance and advisory director Nick Poulter to partner. Poulter’s career path has been a remarkable one, from trainee business adviser in 2005 to his current position of partner. His technical and practical expertise is underpinned by his diverse range of experience including advising a range of listed and private companies, with a focus on investment vehicles and listed closed-ended investment companies. He also specialises in the management of large corporate and group audits. Prior to joining the firm, Poulter also ran his own highly-successful restaurant business. In his new role of partner, he will build on his work to date and further expand his client portfolio.

• Pitmans have announced three internal promotions which will enhance Pitmans employment, advocacy and dispute resolution teams. Angela Shields (pictured) and Will Richmond-Coggan (pictured) have been promoted to partners with Michael Allenby-Smith promoted to a director. Shields qualified in 2000 and joined Pitmans in 2002. She specialises in employment disputes including unfair dismissal, whistleblowing, discrimination and obtaining or defending applications for injunctions in relation to restrictive covenants, confidential information or intellectual property. She deals with all aspects of employment law that manages and enhances the employment. Her client base and specialist sector knowledge is in the following areas: brand and design, entertainment, environmental and waste management, retail, innovation and technology. Richmond-Coggan was called to the Bar in 2000 before dual qualifying as a solicitor-advocate in 2004. Since then he has conducted advocacy to Court of Appeal level and having established in-house higher court advocacy provision at Pitmans is regularly instructed in High Court and complex County Court matters. He has for several years been a committee member of the Solicitors Association of Higher Court Advocates. In addition to dealing with a number of high value commercial disputes, often with a technology focus, he specialises in disputes involving trusts and probate, pensions, and media and reputational matters particularly in connection with publications online or across borders. Allenby-Smith joined Pitmans in 2005 and qualified into the dispute resolution team in 2007. He specialises in commercial disputes, shareholder disputes and claims for breach of contract and misrepresentation.


• Julia Bellamy has joined the commercial property team at Newbury solicitors, Charles Lucas & Marshall. Bellamy was previously at the Reading office of national law firm, Olswang for two years and prior to that, worked for solicitors TNT at its Bristol office. "I feel Charles Lucas & Marshall will offer me a broader range of commercial work," she says. "I already have a lot of experience in landlord and tenant law and commercial leases. However, I want to develop my knowledge base and also have more first-hand contact with clients, getting to understand their businesses more. I like being out and meeting people."


• Ridgeway Group has appointed Daniel Taylor to the new position of finance director. Taylor is a chartered accountant (ACA) and was previously a partner with Grant Thornton. With over 15 years’ experience of the automotive sector on both the retailer and manufacturer sides, he is a regular speaker at automotive seminars and contributes to many industry publications. He studied economics at Leeds University before moving on to train as a chartered accountant with Grant Thornton, qualifying in 2000. From there he went on to qualify as an insolvency


practitioner in 2003. Taylor has spent the majority of his career at Grant Thornton working in the automotive sector, and has led the firm's national automotive team for the past three years.
