Retiring GP

plans to travel A YALDING GP is retiring after more than 20 years’ service at a busy doctors’ practice. Dr Kevin Miller, of Fincham

& Partners, began working at the practice in the early 1990s before becoming a partner in 1994.His last day at the surgery is June 30. He did his medical training at Cambridge University and at Guy’s Hospital in London. Dr Miller, 60, described him-

self as “a fairly traditional GP” who believed in gaining an un- derstanding of his patients as individuals. He added: “I think it’s important to be approach- able as a GP and have a relaxed attitude and also to allow pa- tients to become involved in their own care.” Praising the atmosphere of

Yalding Surgery, Dr Miller said: “It’s a place that’s conducive to being a GP – very friendly and a place where everyone knows everyone else.” Hiswife Catherine, a consult-

ant paediatric neurologist at Great Ormond Street, is not planning to retire immediately, but the couple intend to remain in the Yalding area. Dr Miller wants to use his free

time to work on his house and garden and also to travel to far- flung destinations, starting with a visit to North Korea.

Speed limit up for discussion

A PROPOSAL to create a 20mph limit for the centre of East Farleigh is to be considered by the parish council, after in- vestigations carried out by the parish plan action group. Residents have expressed concern about traffic dangers in this area and speed in Lower Road. Options for improve- ments were put before a village exhibition, but there was no strong consensus. The group consulted Kent Highway Services and KCC Cllr Paulina Stockell, who supports

a design proposal for discus- sion. This could include:  20mph area in Lower Road covering about 100m both east and west of Station Hill.  20mph for a short length of the top of Station Hill and in Vicarage Lane to the junction with Forge Lane.  alterations to the Bull junc- tion to improve sight lines for drivers and reduce four lanes for traffic in this area to two;  improved sight lines at the junction of Forge Lane and Vicarage Lane.

Racing to raise charity cash

A BAKER’S dozen of runners proved a powerful force for the charity Dandelion Time in the PaddockWood half marathon. A record 13 runners

ran to raise funds for the children’s charity, based in West Far- leigh, raisingwell over £1,000 to boost funds. The majority of runners were from SE- CAmb (South East Coast Ambulance Service) who showed a great team effort and wonderful spirit around the 13.1 miles of country lanes. The fastest team runnerwas Dan Whaites, who completed the half Marathon in just under 1hour 24 minutes. Dandelion Time’s Anyes Reading said: “Well done to all the runners and thank you especially to SECAmb for all their support.”

The parish council has now agreed to commission KHS to design a proposal, subject to se- curing funding. Other smaller highways im- provements which were pro- posed by the group won wide public approval and the parish council has agreed to consider these. They include improvements

at the junction of Dean Street and Forge Lane and a new sign signifying a school entrance at the western end of Lower Road in the parish.
