AGROUP of young drag- ons breathed fire into the spring showing season
on EasterMonday. Members of the Welsh and ShropshireYoung
Jersey
Breeders held their second annu- al ‘Dragon Jerseyfest’ Showat Carmarthen Livestock Centre on April 1st. Once again the quality of
stock wasexceptional forthe onlydedicated Jersey cattle show in the UK, especiallyasall entries came from within a radius of less than 20 miles in Carmarthen and Pembrokeshire. The bitterly cold weather
affected the number of cattle for- warded forjudging, butMatt Pye, of BayViewJerseys, Lancashire, still had his work cut out to judge the high quality of handlers and stock in the ring. Agood crowd of spectators,
all wrapped up against the cold, gathered to watch the excellent handling skills of the members in the showmanship classes fol- lowedbythe calf and cowclass- es.

sweep in the heifer and cow championship,with Glanmor Ring Trifle taking the top hon- ours in the heifer section and Glanmor Action Astrain
reserve. Second calver,Glanmor Saber Phloxwas named champi- on cowand also took the best udder and best exhibitor bred awards. Huw Evans,ofBJP Marts,
judged the junior and senior breeders herdand the female progenyclasses. The young breeders thanked Mr Evans forallowing use of the
mart site and its facilities,senior club members whovolunteered to steward,raised money and collected sponsorship forthe show, and all sponsors fortheir generosity.Helen Cox, Helen Carpenter and Ffiona Jones, receivedaspecial thanks forall their organisational work,which ensured the showwas another success.
