Boat And Ship Yard News

Kittery Point Yacht Yard in Kittery and Eliot has had a good winter. Up at the Eliot yard they have been building the PYY22. They now have en- tered into an agreement with Smith Yacht Sales Located in Hingham, Massachusetts to market this boat for them. They have also changed the name to the Patten 22. The newest Patten 22 is in the shop having the fi nishing touches put on. Her hull and deck are done and they are hooking up her 150 hp Yanmar diesel engine. This one will be fi nished off as a picnic model and will be ready for the upcoming season. The next one will also be fi nished off as a picnic boat, but will be powered with an I/O.

In the same shop they are repowering a Young Brothers 38 lobster boat, which is

Like many yards, there are a number of smaller jobs. They include replacing the headliner in an Ellis 36 with varnished ash strips. One of UNH’s boats is in to have some fi berglass repairs made. Early in March they replaced the main generator in a local tug- boat, which took 36 hours to complete. They had to completely tear down the engine and rebuild it from cam up. Always looking to offer more for their customers, Kittery Point Yacht Yard is now an authorized John Deere dealer for sales and service. They added this to their Cater- pillar, Yanmar and Westerbeke lines. The new storage building was complet- ed late last fall and was easily fi lled for the winter. As for other yard news they have

Before they started working on the re- pair work, they performed maintenance on their truck and hydraulic trailer so it would be ready for the upcoming launching season. Over the past few years Wells harbor has needed to be dredged. With the assis- tance of Senator Susan Collins this will be done this fall. After Hurricane Sandy a lot of sand was added inside the harbor making it almost impossible to navigate at low tide unless you were in a kayak.
