s I write this column, ASC professionals from across the country are making plans to travel to Boston this month to attend ASCA 2013— ASCA’s annual meeting and the largest ASC meeting of the year. Those


who attend ASCA’s annual meetings consistently tell us that one of the main reasons that they participate is the networking opportunities that these meetings provide. We have designed this year’s program to maximize those opportunities and are looking forward to an exceptional experience for all. ASCA’s annual meetings aren’t the only way that ASCA provides opportunities


for ASC professionals to share information during the year. The ASCA Connect online members-only networking community on our web site (www.ascassociation.org), the various email messages that we send out and the in-person seminars that we conduct throughout the year are others. Another invaluable tool that ASCA provides to support this kind of information


exchange—and one that can regularly provide ASCs with the information they need to make meaningful and measurable improvements in the clinical care that they provide—is ASCA’s clinical benchmarking program. This year, we are introducing an entirely new clinical benchmarking program that will make this process user friendly and better targeted to the key operational areas in your ASC where these measurements matter most. As this magazine goes to press, we are expecting to partner in this project with a company that has long supported the ASC community, and we are looking forward to being able to bring their expertise and experience to this program. In February, ASCA conducted a survey to collect information and ideas from its members about key elements that they would like a clinical benchmarking program to include. We collected a lot of good suggestions that we are now incorporating into our final product. ASCA’s new clinical benchmarking program will give all ASCs a unique
