• Buckinghamshire New University has appointed Prof Colin Martin as Professor of mental health to drive its research agenda in the area. Martin, a registered mental health nurse, moves from a role as chair in mental health at the University of the West of Scotland, where he has worked for five years. The experienced figure has been involved in more than 150 research papers and book chapters, is a chartered health psychologist and chartered scientist, and has trained in analytical biochemistry. He said: “My focus is on developing applied research which we hope will become clinically meaningful and impact on patients and service users." Martin is also an honorary consultant
psychologist to The Salvation Army (UK and Eire Territories) and has worked to formulate its addictions policy to develop clinical care and services. He is a keen author and editor, and his work includes Handbook of Behaviour, Food and Nutrition and Nanomedicine and the Nervous System.
• Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has announced the appointment of two new board members, Dr Anne Murdoch, co-opted education sector director and deputy chair, and Cllr David Lee, public sector director and representative of the Berkshire Leaders' Group. Murdoch OBE has been principal and chief executive officer of Newbury College since 2001 and during that time has overseen a total new build and move to a new site, as well as the development of a wide range of other new facilities for Newbury College students. Murdoch has spent most of her career in education and training, working in schools, University and FE Colleges and during that time has demonstrated a commitment to raising standards and engaging with employers to ensure training programmes meet their needs. Murdoch has worked locally, regionally and nationally on representative groups in education including the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) Berkshire. Lee, has been leader of Wokingham Borough Council since 2008, having been a councillor for over 15 years as an executive member for social care and housing, chairman of the planning committee and member of the personnel board. Lee was champion to the executive for base budgets and a member of the highways board, audit and performance sub-group and the audit committee. A qualified accountant with PwC, Lee has worked at numerous financial institutions, including Ernst & Young and NatWest. He has also served as non-executive director of Royal Berkshire Ambulance Trust.
