Jools records in town MUSICIAN Jools Holland will be recording his BBC2 show atMaidstone Studios in Grove Green following the closure of the Television Centre in London’s Shepherds Bush. Nine instalments of Later with Jools Hol-


land will be produced in Maidstone, starting on April 9, and the deal could be extended if all goes well. The show’s executive producer, Mark Cooper, said theMaidstone studiowas awon- derful size, bigger than the one at Television Centre, and his team had been made very wel- come. For Jools, the journey to work will be easier as he lives at Cooling Castle.


Pre-fab canteen to remain VALLEY Park School has been given planning permission to keep its pre-fabricated kitchen and canteen unit. Permission was originally granted for the building at the school, in Huntsman Lane, Vinters Park, in 2002.


Lee helps Stones find future stars


MAIDSTONEUnited have signed Lee Spiller as their technical adviser, to help find and de- velop first team players of the future. The former Chelsea, Gillingham and Ebbs-


fleet midfielder, who co-founded leading coaching organisation Soccer Elite FA, will work alongside Maidstone’s director of foot- ball Bill Williams to develop the best talent, from under 5s to under 16s. He will oversee the club’s player development centres on Wednesdays and Saturdays, holiday soccer schools and coaching clinics. Lee (pictured), who is also head coach at


Soccer Elite FA, said: “Maidstone United is ambitious and has gone from strength to strength in the last few years. It is my home town club, which I played for as a schoolboy before working under Bill Williams, when he was general manager at Gillingham FC. “I am looking forward to implementing a


unique coaching programme and putting in place a structure for players to have a route in to theStones’ first team.We’ll be looking to maximise opportunities for local talent to be
