boats. He also had a problem with his bal- last tanks and this did not allow him to trim correctly. He has said that this would be his last Vendee Globe race. Also fi nishing was Bernard Stamm, who had been disqualifi ed, but completed the race anyway. 7 February, Day 89: There were three skippers members of the 50-something group. One is Dominique Wavre on MIRA- BAUD, who is expected to fi nish his third Vendee Globe on Friday. The next day they expect Arnaud Boissières and the day after that Bertrand de Broc. 9 February, Day 91: Arnaud Boissières
on AKENA VÉRANDAS takes eighth with an elapsed time of 91 days, 2 hours, 9 min- utes and 2 seconds. He sailed 24,478 miles at an average speed of 12.6 knots. He is only one of a few that have fi nished the Vendee Globe in consecutive races. After the last Vendee Globe he purchased Vincent Riou’s PRB and began training on her immediately so as to be ready for this race. He says on problem he had was predicting the weather correctly. He did well in the Pacifi c and started gaining back some of the miles lost. However his decision to go up the shore of South America did not pay off and he began
on VOTRE NOM AUTOUR DU MONDE AVEC EDM PROJETS sailed to a ninth place fi nish with a time of 92 days 05 hours 10 minutes 14seconds. He also received a penalty of 12 hours for unsealing and using his emergency water supply, so his corrected time is 92 days, 17 hours, 10 minutes and 14 seconds.
This was de Broc’s third attempt and was able to better his racer’s time by three days when sailed by Armel Le Cléac’h in the last Vendee Globe. 14 February, Day 95: The two boats still working their way to the fi nish, INITIA- TIVES CŒUR and TEAM PLASTIQUE, have little to no wind. 16 February, Day 97: Fortunately the forecast was changed and more wind was forecast (15-18 knots) for the last twos run into Les Sables d’Olonne. De Lamotte said that his major concern will be tacking after he sustained damage to his rudder, dag- gerboard and daggerboard casing. Another concern is the vessel traffi c as he crosses the Bay of Biscay. He has taken his time and it has not been easy. This will be his fi rst time around the world and the fi rst for his boat, which has been entered in two previous Vendee Globes. Another way to look at success is what the sponsor gained. In this case Initiatives Cœur had 165,000 likes on Facebook and this meant that they were able to fund heart operations for 13 under-privi- leged children. 17 February, Day 98: INITIATIVES CŒUR crossed the line earning a 10th

fi nish with a time of 98 days, 21 hours, 56 minutes and 10 seconds. He hoped to do well

compared to his generation of boats, which raced in the 2000-2001 race. In that event he would have placed fourth. When he fi nished he had added enough clicks to do 14 children heart operations. Despite some issues he certainly enjoyed the race and began making miles on some of those ahead of him. He did have a diffi cult time after crossing the equator on his way back up the Atlantic. His two collisions really tested him and earned him the nickname “Tanguyver.” There was just one boat left, TEAM PLASTIQUE and she was expected to cross 21 February.

days, 2 hours, 34 minutes and 30 seconds. He learned how to get the most out of his racer, but losing sails, halyard issues and a fall that caused broken ribs really hampered a better fi nish. Vendée Globe 2012-2013 fi nal leaderboard
