The charity Hope and Homes for Children is shining a light on a little known

but an important issue which I am proud to support.

I was shocked to learn that 80% of children in institutions and orphanages across Central and

Eastern Europe and Africa are not actually orphans but have been given up by desperate parents who feel they have no other option because there is no support available to them.

It is unthinkable that we should expect any less for children globally than we expect for our own

children - all children should have the opportunity to grow up in a family, not an institution which causes them irreparable damage.

They have made a short film of the event. Click the play button to watch the video.

The British Heart Foundation is the nation’s heart charity, dedicated to saving lives through pioneering research, patient care, campaigning for change and providing vital information to help people care for their own heart health. February was national heart month and a

time when the British Heart Foundation (BHF) encourages the nation to think about their own hearts and the hearts of those around them. They established “Rock Up in Red” – a brand new “wear red day” to raise the issue of a healthy heart. I “rocked up” in red in support of the nation’s heart charity which raises both funds and awareness in Edinburgh South and across the UK. For further information, visit the "Rock Up in

Red" website.
