I recently received notification from Royal Mail regarding their plans to close the Strathearn Road Delivery Office and relocate the collection service to the South East Delivery Office at Bridge End, off Old Dalkeith Road.
constituents, many of whom are rightly concerned about the proposals. I am also working closely with the Grange Association, who have done a superb job in passing on as much information as possible to the local community. I have spoken with the Royal Mail’s Scottish
Director to express my concerns about this proposal and the particular impact it will have on local elderly and disabled residents. I know that hundreds of local people use the collection service at the Strathearn Road Delivery Office every month as they are out most of the day and cannot receive deliveries. They will now have to travel a considerable distance to the proposed new site, and this will be particularly difficult for those without cars. The Royal Mail has stated the reason they are
looking to close the Strathearn Road site is due to a shortage of parking bays for customers and delivery vehicles. The Royal Mail state they need better access for their delivery vehicle fleet as there is a significant increase in parcel volumes, while letter usage is in decline. I can assure local residents I am actively
campaigning to keep the Strathearn Road Delivery Office open as a first step. However if it was to close I have asked the Royal Mail for certain assurances:
