by marcellas reynolds Spring/ Summer 2013 is all about the mix, taking classic menswear elements and making them special. It’s a suit in an

unexpected color like those seen on the runways at Gucci, Burberry and Simon Spurr or a bold print like those at Mr. Turk. The shape of the suit has changed. Gone is the shrunken blazer of past seasons and the short trouser. The new suit fits close to the body but the blazer is a bit longer with pants not too skinny!
TheVESTbecomes important this season as a way to look polished for work, yet cool on the city streets. Vests worked their way into spring collections at Ami and Ted Baker. They look best in solid colors worn with shirts in prints and patterns.
STYLE NOTE: Break a bold patterned suit up by wearing the blazer with khakis and a white shirt. Wear the pants with a solid blazer!

Summer is about theSWIMSUIT. This season designers went bold and graphic. Classic square cuts get edgy with metal details, while super tiny bikinis get the nautical treatment in primary colored stripes. There’s a length for every comfort level like Andrew Christian’s Rider swim shorts and teeny tiny briefs at Dsquared².
STYLE NOTE:The scarf is no longer just for cold weather! Look for lightweight printed options at Gucci, Hermès, Zara and H&M!

SWEATERS for Spring and Summer? Absolutely if they are light weight, almost mesh, tennis inspired like those at Parke and Ronen—like the slouchy chic for layering at Gant by Michael Bastian or the über-sexy and tight at Dolce and Gabbana. The sweater is perfect on its own or under a blazer as a stylish alternative to a shirt.
Marc By Marc Jacobs
ACCESSORIESadd a jolt of whimsy and personality to your look. Get edgy with Marc by Marc Jacobs necklaces with locks, leather stud- ded belts worn with jeans or even a suit. Classic men’s accessories like hats, belts and pocket squares get remixed in ethnic prints (Christys’ Hats), bright colors (Ted Baker’s take on the woven belt) and pocket squares (Paul Smith’s brilliant florals).

TheBAG/ CARRYALL emerges as the most important accessory this season. From colorful totes by Jack Spade and J. Crew to high-end weekenders from Trussardi, Gucci and Louis Vuitton— just as women have always been judged by the purse they carry, men are now being judged by the bag they tote.
