ere’s an idea for visitors reading this magazine or even residents with families or friends


staying. John Putt, a local character who is a volunteer and committed member of Dartmouth Museum, is offering 1 hour long guided-walking tours to as many interesting places as possible in Dartmouth, all within sensible walking distance. John will show you the famous houses, buildings and sights of Dartmouth but also give you an informed commentary. The style of tour will be very much pro-active, lively, jovial and hopefully a lot of fun, as well as being informative. There will always be time to stop and ask questions,


take photos etc., and all done at a leisurely pace. The many steps of Dartmouth have mostly been avoided! All people will get a detailed map showing the route. John says, “Have you ever been on a visit and tried to see all the sights by yourself? It takes forever; you can walk miles and miss a lot of interesting places that you wanted to see. This tour will encompass so many features and will tell of loads of quirky facts such as; what’s the link twixt a Dartmouth Church and a London taxi? When and where was the last attempted Highwayman’s robbery? Where were people hanged, pilloried and put in stocks in days gone by? What is ‘sale by candle’? These and many more anecdotes will be told.” Tours will run daily at 11.00am and 1.00pm from the Newcomen House next to the Tourist Information centre. Tours cost £3 per head and ideally you need to be booked a little in advance to guarantee your place (numbers are limited to 12), by calling John on 01803 770207 or 07757 6804579 or simply look for John in his Tour Guide high vis or polo shirts.
