Post Office will be open for longer
Looe’s Barbican Post Office is to relaunch with a new look – and much longer opening hours.
As part of plans to modernise the national network of Post Offices and extend opening times, the Barbican branch will be an ‘open plan’ retail store, with Post Office services such as banking, bill paying, postage and parcels available seven days a week.
The trading hours at the branch have been extended
by 56 hours a week. The branch will close for refurbishment on February 9 at 12.30pm and will reopen on Tuesday, February 17 at 7.30am.
During this period the nearest Post Offices will be at Bindown Stores, Nomansland, and in Fore Street, Looe.
Opening times for the new- look branch will be Monday- Saturday, 7.30am-9pm and Sunday, 7.30am-8pm.
Tree aids charities
Two local charities have been supported thanks to all those who sponsored a light on Polperro Methodist Chapel’s Christmas Tree of Memories.
Mount Edgecumbe Hospice and the Cornwall Air Ambulance each received cheques for £125 following the appeal, which saw
people make donations and sponsor a light in memory of their loved ones.
A spokesperson for Polperro Methodist Chapel said: ‘Thank you to everyone who contributed, the tree looked so radiant and helped two worthwhile causes in the process.’
Course to renew your zest for life
A series of free sessions aimed at boosting the well-being and happiness of over 65s has begun at St Martin’s Church Hall, in Looe.
Run by Outlook Southwest, the course is for anyone who may be experiencing challenges such as health problems, social isolation or bereavement.
Course organisers say that it can help people make positive changes in their lives and prepare for the years ahead with greater resilience and confidence.

MP talks with floods minister
MP Sheryll Murray has met with the Government minister responsible for dealing with flooding, Richard Benyon, to discuss the effect it is having on the lives of constituents in South East Cornwall.
Mrs Murray said: ‘South East Cornwall has suffered more than its fair share of flooding and I wanted to ensure that the minister and the Government where fully briefed on the situation and to ask him to come down to see the damage caused himself.’
Mr Benyon said: ‘I recognise the impact these floods have had on this part of Cornwall. I know the difficulties facing local residents and I want to make sure the Government is doing all it can to help this local community recover.’
