Blacklands development

AN application has been made to build 15 houses on Goddens Yard, off Blacklands, East Malling.

The site is within the “village envelope” so development is likely to be acceptable in principle to the planners.

Access would be along Blacklands from the Mill Street/ Clare Lane junction. The road is unadopted, according to KCC, but is the route of the public footpath through to Chapman Way and New Road. The applicants propose to improve the surface but it will be important to ensure this is done in a sympathetic manner, being next to the stream and on the edge of the conservation area which extends to a small part of the site.

There are also protected trees on part of the site and it adjoins Bone Alley footpath with its remnant of a ragstone wall. It would be good to see this reinstated, especially as the fence boundary has been a problem in recent years.

Both the conservation group and the parish council have commented on the details. Plans may be inspected at the parish council offices at Church Farm, New Hythe Lane, or at the Tonbridge and Malling Council offices or its website. Comments, which are open to the public, should be sent to the borough council.
