Mayfield riders prove they are still at the top of their game

ayfield Equestrian Squad is celebrating after a very successful trip to the National Schools Arena Eventing Championships at Addington Manor, which
took place on the 20 and 21 October. The girls had fought stiff competition throughout the year to qualify for the prestigious championships, and were proud to represent Mayfield and compete against the very best young riders in the country.
Congratulations must go to Year 7 pupil, Bindi Vereker, who cemented her place as one of Britain's top young riders after winning the Novice Individual Jumping with Style championships on her 13.2 pony, Bunny. It is an especially notable achievement considering that almost 2000 children entered the class across the country, with only the top 100 getting to the championships. Bindi jumped a superb round within the time to decisively win the class, and to take the title of Novice Individual Jumping with Style Champion.
The Senior Show Jumping team finished Reserve Champions in the Open Show Jumping. Although they missed out on the title, this is an amazing achievement considering that 320 teams entered the class, with only the top 28 qualifying for the final at Addington.
Sophie Mallory, Phoebe Toyne Bridges, Cosima Tibbles and Ellie Walker also came third in the Intermediate Show Jumping. A special mention must go to Sophie Mallory, who managed to get into the jump-off of the Advanced Individual Placing. Sophie jumped a stylish round over the challenging 1.15 metre course, but she narrowly missed being placed.
Director of Riding, Jill Barker, was very pleased with the girls' performance. She commented, "I am extremely proud of our equestrian squad. The team showed great commitment, and the team spirit shone through proving that Mayfield are still very much the school to beat!"
Their success at the East Sussex Schools County Show Jumping Championships comes hot on the heels of an extremely successful trip to the National Schools Championships at Addington at the end of October. The trio of county titles mean that Mayfield have qualified to represent East Sussex in the County Challenge, which will be held at the National Schools Championships at Addington next year.

...Mayfield are still
very much the school to beat!
Director of Riding, Jill Barker, commented “Following our successes at the National Schools Championships, it was great that our Riding Squad competed so successfully at Golden Cross. Mayfield has now a depth of talent that enables us to take a number of teams to competitions. I was particularly pleased that some of our riders, who are bringing on young horses, competed successfully and were in winning teams. Mayfield is all about team work through strength and support.”
Mayfield and Grove Park – working together against breast cancer
O
n Wednesday 24 October, Sixth Form pupils from Mayfield and Grove Park schools worked in the Mayfield Food and Nutrition room to create
pink cupcakes, which were then sold at lunchtime to raise money for Pink Week in support of Breast Cancer awareness. This was part of our regular "Actions Not Words" group activities. Grove Park is a school in Crowborough for pupils with complex learning difficulties and autism. Our Year 12 girls have been working with the pupils from Grove Park each week to create a lasting partnership between the two schools.
