Craig Cameron General Training, Problem Solving
Craig Cameron has been a
long-time fi xture at Expo, and a very popular one at that. Specta- tors fl ock to the ring when they hear his good-natured voice and all-telling laugh. A true cowboy through and through, Craig grew up in Houston, Texas on his fam- ily’s ranch. While in high school, he competed in local rodeos in all the rough stock events. After high school, Craig went to work for the famed Texas Ranger Ham- ers family and learned traditional ranching methods.
Craig continued to pursue his rodeo career, earning his PRCA
card, and lived the rodeo life for nearly two decades. While traveling all over the U.S., Canada and Mexico, Craig began to feel the need to change the way people trained horses. He often worked with “problem” horses and used a more natural approach that worked well. People began to hear of his methods and would come to watch him train; eventually, Craig hit the road again, this time teaching his methods through various clinics and expos. Even now, Craig travels almost 90,000 miles over 44 weeks each year teaching.

His goal as a clinician is to enhance the knowledge of the novice and professional gaited horse trainer and rider in order to develop a free-going horse and obtain a smooth easy gait. Gary describes his training methods as, “the art of infl uencing and directing your horse to obtain his willing obedience in the accomplish- ment of a task.” Gary understands that leadership is an important role in training any horse, something he learned while
serving as a military commander in Desert Storm and as a Kentucky State Police Detective. His simple step-by-step approach to training helps him easily communicate his methods and creates a positive learn- ing experience for both the horse and rider.
