competition. At the final veterinary check before leaving for the Pan Am Games in Mexico, aſter they had already been named to the team, Will was deemed “not quite right”
by the veterinary commitee, so they had to stay home and watch their replacements win team gold. “It was the only disappointment I’ve had with this horse. I was a bit shocked actually, but it was a blessing in disguise as the injury was a very minor thing and we fixed it before it got worse. Now he is great,” says Jon. “At Boekelo last fall our dressage test was quite good for
him. Te trot extensions were nice, but the canter was a litle tight. We were the 103rd horse and rider to go on a very, very muddy cross-country course. Will lost his leſt front shoe early in the course, but we still got around cleanly with only time faults. In show jumping the warm-up areas were just destroyed from the previous three days. But Will’s show jumping was prety exceptional. He jumped clear with only one time fault. I was thrilled with him,” he continues. Looking toward the spring of 2013, Jon hopes to shave
eight points off their dressage test and work on going faster cross-country. He plans to do horse trials with Will in February and hopefully a three-star in the late spring, perhaps in Europe depending on finances, and maybe a four-star by the fall. Will is still young as a coming nine- year-old, so Jon looks forward to many more international competitions in their future. With a talented pair like Jon and Will, good fortune is bound to find them again.
Showing his great jumping style, Downtown Harrison easily clears a vertical in the stadium phase to win the 2012 Bromont CCI3*.
