His dam was of Danish and Swedish heritage as well as

being related to Isaac (international jumper), Basic (inter- national dressage) and Blue Hors Matine (international dressage). Through Elizar 614, Mistral Hojris is also related to the dressage horses, Donnperignon and Mystery Whisper, in London.

THE CREAM The remainder of the top 18, those that also made it through to the dressage freestyle competition, are, for the most part, related to other dressage horses at the 2012 Olympics. For example, the Donnerhall descendants include Damon Hill (4th), Diva Royal (7th), Desperados (8th), Undercover (9th), Don Auriello (11th), Digby (12th) and Donnperignon (18th). He is also ancestor to other dressage competitors, D’Niro, Dablino, Dorina and Santana.

Damon Hill (4th)

was sired by Donnerhall, the individual bronze medalist and team gold medalist at the 1994 WEG. In addition, Damon Hill’s dam’s sire, Rubenstein I, as the paternal grandsire of Eremo del Castegno (15th) and in the pedigree of Augustin (13th) and Don Auriello (11th) plus Rafalca and Santana. Uthopia (5th) is

Donnerhall Rubenstein I

a grandson of Ferro (ancestor to Painted Black, Undercover and Valegro) whose dam traces to Ulft (ancestor to Mistral Hojris, Painted Black, Parzival, Undercover and Valegro) and Roemer (ancestor to Parzival and Undercover). Salinero (6th) is by Salieri and is related to other Olympic dressage horses through his dam’s sire and broodmare sire, Lugano II (ancestor to Antonello) and Pik Koenig (ancestor to Desperados, Dorina, Raneur and Santana), respectively. Diva Royal (7th) is a Donnerhall granddaughter that

traces to Consul, a Trakehner and ancestor to Eremo Del Castegno. Her dam traces to World Cup I (ancestor to Desperados, Don Auriello, Eremo Del Castegno, Riwera de Hus, Whisper and Wizard) and Eiger I (ancestor to Spirit). Desperados (8th) is a Donnerhall grandson whose

dam traces to Weltmeyer (ancestor to Don Auriello, Eremo Del Castegno, Riwera de Hus, Whisper and Wizard), Matcho and Pik Koenig (ancestor to Dorina, Raneur, Salinero and Santana).

Undercover

(9th) is by Ferro (ancestor to Painted Black, Uthopia and Valegro) and out of a Donnerhall daughter that also traced to Roemer (ancestor to Parzival and Uthopia). Fuego de Cardenas (10th), one of two baroque-type horses in the top 18, is not related to any other horses, but he does display quite a bit of inbreeding within five generations. He was only related to one other dressage horse: Grandioso. Don Auriello (11th) is from the Donnerhall sire line and out of a mare that traces to Weltmeyer (ancestor to Desperados, Eremo Del Castegno, Riwera de Hus, Whisper and Wizard) and Argentan I (ancestor to Augustin, Rafalca and Sandro Boy). Digby (12th) is by Donnerhall and out of a mare tracing

Weltmeyer

to Sandro (ancestor to Sandro Boy). Augustin (13th) is a great grandson of Argentan I

(ancestor to Don Auriello, Rafalca and Sandro Boy) that traces to Landgraf I (ancestor to Breaking Dawn, Calecto V, Clive, Ekwador and Scandic) and out of a mare tracing to Rubeinstein I (ancestor to Damon Hill, Don Auriello, Eremo Del Castegno, Rafalca and Santana). Scandic (14th) is by Solos Carex, a grandson of

Calypso I (ancestor to Breaking Dawn and Clive), and out of a mare tracing to Napoleon 625 (ancestor to D’ Niro) and Michelangelo (ancestor to Mistral Hojris). Eremo Del Castegno (15th) is by Rohdiamant

(ancestor to Augustin) and out of a daughter of Weltmeyer (ancestor to Desperados, don Auriello, Riwera de Hus, Whisper and Wizard) that traced to Consul (Trakehner ancestor to Diva Royal) and Absatz (ancestor to Augustin, Chrevi’s Capital, Dablino, Desperados, Donnerfee, Rafalca, Riwera de Hus, Sancette, Sandro Boy, Uzzo, Whisper and Wizard). Rubi (16th) is undoubtedly one of the most linebred individuals at the Games. His sire and his dam both carry Vidago (by Principe VIII and out of a daughter of the same stallion) and Zorra II (had three crosses to Regedor), and his broodmare sire is by Estribilho and out of a daughter of the same stallion. Through Euclides, Vidago and Garvoneza, horses appearing twice each in his pedigree, he is related to Pastor. Ravel (17th) is from the Cor de la Bryere sire line through

Calypso II (ancestor to Coryolano, Sancette and Wizard) and out of a mare tracing to Pion, Nimmerdor (ancestor to Parzival and Uzzo) and Raimond (ancestor to Breaking Dawn, Raneur and Uthopia). Donnperignon (18th) is by Donnerhall and out of a mare tracing to Elizar 614 (ancestor to Mistral Hojris).
