Have your say to make town safer
SAFER Camborne, the multi-agency initia- tive set up to improve community safety and reduce crime and anti social behaviour in the town centre, is asking residents to give their thoughts on how safe they feel.
The project, set up a year ago, has had a productive 12 months, said Cornwall Coun- cil’s community safety officer Sarah Necke. ‘But we are in no way complacent,’ she added. ‘We want people to complete a short online survey to give us their feedback which will help us focus on issues for the future. ‘Tackling anti-social behaviour linked to al- cohol is still a priority, but we also want to fo- cus on providing activities for young people and gain their views on what they want.’
Milestones PORTREATH Primary School children make their special guests feel very welcome
Rudolf’s cousins delight children
THERE was a special treat in store for Portreath Primary School children when two reindeer came to school for the day. Feadon Farm
Wildlife and Conserva- tion centre is the year- round home of Lowen and Nadelik, two very handsome reindeer brothers who live at the wildlife centre in Portreath.
The four year-old reindeer, who are ex- tremely friendly and sociable, love this fes- tive time of year as they get to meet all the children, up close and
personal, who visit them at Feadon Farm for the Christmas ac- tivities.
As a special treat for all their hard work and for being so good, Lowen and Nadelik visited the children as a surprise.
Surprise Leaving their home
at Feadon Farm, the reindeer strolled through the woods down into the village – much to the pleasure and surprise of the res- idents and passers-by. Lowen and Nadelik then continued walk-

ing on to the school, where they delighted all 141 children, with each getting to stroke them and learn all about these magnifi- cent animals and how they are cared for at Feadon Farm.
Classes 1 and 2 all received a letter from Father Christmas on the morning of the visit to let them know that he had sent two of
Rudolph’s cousins, who luckily live in Portreath, to visit them and to make sure they were being good. Named after the Cornish words for Merry and Christmas, the reindeer play a vi- tal part in the role which Feadon Farm plays in inspiring and educating visitors on wildlife and its conser- vation.

Some milestones for Safer Camborne over the past year include: ● Voluntary removal of high-strength alco- hol in three-litre bottles from display in all off licences in Camborne which has helped reduce street drinking in the town square. ● Multi-agency patrols to increase public reassurance, identify issues in the town and increase networking between agencies. ● Clean up of graffiti in Guerney Mews and the re-painting of shop fronts by volun- teers from the Drop in and Share Centre; ● Replacement of broken bins and missing street name plates; ● Youth workers engaging with young peo- ple in our community. Survey work in the town centre has been undertaken to gauge opinion, measure feel- ings of safety and to assist partners in focus- ing resources. The views of the public are needed and anyone prepared to complete a survey is asked to go log on to
