Well-deserved treat
AN 11-year-old girl from Redruth, who brought her father back to life when he stopped breathing, has been given the VIP treatment by First Great Western (FGW).
Nominated for a St John Ambulance First Aid Award, Maria Rowe and her family were invited to attend an awards ceremony in London after the youngster saved her dad’s life. But the family couldn’t afford the trip. On hearing the news, FGW offered to provide three complimentary first class tickets for the Rowe family and, working with the Leisure Pass Group, were also able to offer three London Passes allow- ing free entry to more than 60 top attrac- tions.
Privilege
FGW general manager West of England Julian Crow said: ‘When a young girl like Maria has such presence of mind to remember her first aid training and bring her father back from the brink, and you hear that the family cannot af- ford the trip to London, it is a privilege to be able to provide tickets for them to travel.’
Maria was guided by a 999 call opera- tor as she performed CPR on her dad John, following a heart attack last July. On the third cycle of resuscitation Mr Rowe, 65, started to breathe again before an ambulance crew arrived and took over treatment. The Leisure Pass Group’s retail sales manager Lyndsey Kirk said: ‘The Leisure Pass Group is delighted to offer Maria and her parents London Passes to allow them to visit some of London's wonderful attractions. ‘We hope Maria enjoys her very well deserved trip to the capital.’

New link road given go-ahead
A £27M scheme to create a new road linking Camborne, Pool and Redruth has been given the go-ahead by the Government. Part of the wider regeneration plans for the Camborne, Pool and Redruth area, the scheme will provide a new East-West road between Wil- son Way in Pool and Dolcoath in Camborne. It will also see improvements made to Dudnance Lane in Pool.
The decision by the Secretary of State for
Transport follows a public inquiry in June 2012 and now paves the way for Cornwall Council to take forward construction of the scheme. It is hoped construction of the new road could begin as early as next spring, subject to any le- gal challenges, and completed by the end of 2014.
