rusticweddingchic.com Ask Maggie FALLWEDDING DECOR PROBLEMS& ANSWERS
Rustic Wedding Chic Reader: I am planning a winter wedding and am currently looking for a color pallet that might go well with that season. Do you have any ideas of colors I could go with?
Maggie: I swear, one of the most difficult aspects of the early planning stages is picking the colors that you want to work with on your wedding day. My first piece of advice is to have a variety of about three to four colors that you can work with and incorporate to the wedding. Limiting yourself to only two colors means you won’t have as many options when it comes to wedding decor.
I have pulled together a few color ideas and arranged them into a color block so you can see how they work together. The first option is to go with cream, gold and ice blue while my second option is a bit more traditional and runs in the red and green family, yet is updated with a berry and pomegranate color mix in the middle.

If you wanted to go with option number one you might think about having ice blue table cloths and gold napkins and then working in all white and cream centerpieces and flowers, while if you go with option number two you might consider using greenery as your floral displays with small mixes of berries and then punches of pomegranate & reds in smaller details like the place cards & table numbers. Winter is a wonderful season to mix and match colors and remember everything goes with white!
Rustic Wedding Chic Reader: I loved the ideas you gave in the DIY WeddingsMagazine Fall issue about how to put together a wedding welcome bag. Do you have any ideas for items that might be good to include for a winter wedding? My wedding is taking place in Aspen in January and I would love some ideas.
Maggie: Do I have any ideas? Oh yes! In fact, one of my most favorite wedding details to talk about is the welcome bag (or basket, or box, or bucket). My first idea for making it fit the winter season is to work with something like a gable box and make it festive by adding a vintage postcard with a welcome note for each guest. Gable boxes in the natural kraft color seem like they just scream ski lodge to me and ones like these can be found at craft stores and online at
WhisperingPinesCatalog.com.

As far as what to add to them, my thought go immediately to the more fun side of the chilly season. Add something cute like a hand warmer for walking around, the fixings for hot chocolate and maybe even a s'mores kit, and then you can top it all off with something like a ski trail map or even a one day lift ticket.
