MY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION…

What has AGR and its members got on their to-do lists for 2013?

“At AGR, we will be leveraging social media channels more, from both the perspective of starting conversations and sharing our

own news, to sharing the activities and updates from other organisations. That reminds me, I need to tweet this resolution!” Claire Adams, Relationship Manager, AGR

“Watching our students respond to competitions, VIP passes / Golden Tickets, short term work shadowing opportunities, alumni coffee mornings, mentoring and the like has opened my eyes this year, but we don’t see many recruiters prepared to try something different. It would be great to change that in 2013.”

“My New Year’s Resolution is to encourage more of our employer partners to listen to the feedback we get from our students and

academics and to be open to trying something new when they visit City. Watching our students respond to competitions, VIP passes / Golden Tickets, short term work shadowing opportunities, alumni coffee mornings, mentoring and the like has opened my eyes this year, but we don’t see many recruiters prepared to try something different. It would be great to change that in 2013.” Gary Argent, Director of Careers, City University

“I predict 2013 will be a great year for GRB as our team grows from strength to strength. As the business owner, I need to ensure our team

of experts stay focussed on matching employers with the right graduates. Personally, in order to stay at the top of my game, I will continue to build my own skillset learning from my peers at AGR, graduates I meet and from my involvement with CIM whilst seeking new physical challenges outside of work like trekking to Everest Base Camp.” Dan Hawes, Head of Marketing, GRB

“There is a myth that placements and internships involve a lot of tea making skills. Here at RateMyPlacement, we do love a cuppa

but don’t agree students should be making it for us! Our resolution is to give all students, universities and employers access to the best resources when it comes to increasing employability. We’re here to help!” Lizzie Brock, Marketing Manager, RMP Enterprise

“Interview for a dream job while remaining in the comfort and warmth of your own home... that’s Sonru’s wish for the 2013 new graduates

(and at the same time, save recruiters’ time and money they can spend on the office Christmas party). Ho! Ho! Ho!” Daniel Richard, UK Managing Director, Sonru

26 GRADUATE RECRUITER

“My key objective is to launch a Career App that will put all the data and tips from our research into how people actually drive successful

careers at your fingertips – we all want to progress our careers but often we forget about this due to immediate urgencies. How nice to shake your phone for a career tip, have ideas and experiments pushed to you, be able to set favourite tips and reminders – an instant career mentor!” Anne Hamill, Managing Director, Talent & Potential

“My New Year’s resolution is to get more involved in school/college leaver recruitment. Having recently volunteered to talk to sixth

formers about careers in a local school, it’s clear to me how tricky it can be for employers to engage with this audience. And to eat less chocolate!” Tessa McEwan, AGR Consultant Trainer, Developing Talent

“In 2013 I plan a different take on the usual ‘Find, Filter, Fit’ graduate recruitment cycle... Instead of ‘Finding’ candidates via our

marketing activities, I intend to ‘Find’ more time in my diary to not feel so stretched all the time. Instead of ‘Filtering’ candidates through our selection process, I intend to ‘Filter’ more junk emails out of my ever expanding Inbox. And speaking of things stretching and expanding due to junk, instead of ‘Fitting’ candidates into roles, I intend to get ‘Fit’ – or at least fitter. Get on my bike more and go through some cycles myself!” Brian Sinclair, Head of Freshers Recruitment, CapGemini

“I don’t normally set New Year’s Resolutions, as I’ve always had the attitude that if something needs changing, change it now! But having

gained my dream job, a fiancé and another horse (I now have three!) the ‘now’ has been slightly re-prioritised and the Christmas break seems like a perfect opportunity to take control. Top of the list are: to have one horse-free day a week, have a ‘date-night’ with my fiancé every fortnight, write an article/paper on something that I’m passionate about once a quarter, set a development plan for my career progression, get a mentor, drink less tea/ more water and write less lists!” Alexandra Sinton, Head of Graduate Recruitment, Logica

“2013 for me, is about exploring ‘Train to Retain’ by understanding the ingredients of exceptional graduate programmes. And to eat less chips.”

Saj Jetha, Managing Director, The Smarty Train
