May 2012 South West Building & Construction 11 LIGHTHOUSE CLUB Tremendous success
THE Lighthouse Club South West Branch Ladies Night Dinner and Dance was held on Friday, March 23, at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Dawlish Warren.
The Lighthouse Club, the construction industry charity, booked every room in the hotel for the occasion, when the dress code was black tie for the men and posh frocks for the ladies.
The 120 guests - from Sphere Solutions, TRS, LA Moore Ltd, David Jeffery & Co, M & M Plant (Devon & Cornwall) Ltd, Speedy Hire plc, Gilpin Demolition, Luke Furse Earthmoving Ltd, Quality Marking Services Ltd, SEL Clarke Ltd, Devon Plant Services Ltd and the Curtis Group - enjoyed a scrumptious four course meal. The dignitaries at the evening were Mark and Judith Everett, Tony and Maureen Green and David and June Jeffery. Mark, the chairman of the Lighthouse Club National Benevolent Fund, travelled from Scotland for the evening and has attended every dinner since the relaunch of the South West branch four years ago. Tony is a national council member and
David is the South West chairman. David presented each lady at the event with a flower.
The compere once again was Mark Jenkins, who did an outstanding job, and live music was provided by ‘Maybe Gaga’. The event included a table magician and other fun activities. There was a large prize draw with items
given by many construction businesses that were not able to be present on the evening. A charity auction had lots including a
weekend stay at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, a signed Wayne Rooney football shirt, a Ryan Giggs picture, a fabulous cake featuring a lighthouse and vouchers to spend with Speedy Hire plc. The star prize of the evening, given by HM Plant, was four tickets to attend the British Motocross Championship, along with four jackets.
The dancing went on until 4am. The South West branch handed a cheque for £7,000 to Mark Everett. The Lighthouse Club’s Devon Welfare Officer Susanne Furse made a speech to
thank people for attending the evening and giving so generously on the night and in the past.
Susanne also thanked others who had supported the Lighthouse Club and revealed that in the past four years, since the rejuvenation of the South West branch, the staggering amount of £35,000 had been raised for the Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund (see picture on page 13). Mark Everett in his speech to the South
West branch stated the branch was one of the most proactive in the country and that it was unique with so many young members - which is fantastic for the future of the Lighthouse Club.
He also commented that the Lighthouse Club is like a big family.
He said the Lighthouse Club had helped
over 500 families in their times of need in the past year due to death, illness and accident and had given away over £0.5m in the last year in financial help. For more information on the South West branch, contact Susanne Furse at
