Pottery guard dog goes walkies!
WHENJohnWalker’s dogwent missing from outside his house in CastleRoad, Allington, hewas naturally upset. It may not have been a real dog, but the lifesize
model of a golden Labrador had stood guard over his homeformore than four years, and hadbecomea bit of a local celebritywith passers-by.
The dog, which used to stand guard in the
garden, is now being kept safely inside (right)
John put posters up on trees around Allington, in
thehope that someonemight have justmoved him to a new home as a joke and, at the suggestion of the police, offered a reward for the dog’s safe return. As the days passed, and the school term started, residents of Allington stopped to read the posters, andwordgot roundabout themissing hound.Hewas the subject of conversation in the post office, in the local schools, and even John’s mother’s cleanerwas keen to hear any news. Three weeks later, John was woken by a knock on
his door at 7am one morning. It was his next-door neighbour, who had found the dog abandoned a few doors up. “It's a bit of amystery,” said John. “Where has the
dog been for the last fewweeks andwhywas hewas returned, after all this time, to the wrong address?” As John doesn’t know who returned the dog, he is
unable to give them the reward, but he’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone in Allington for look- ing for him and let them knowhe is home – but stay- ing safely indoors!
Reservoir to boost supplies
WATER engineers are celebrat- ing the completion of a £2 mil- lion service reservoir, which will help secure future water supplies for the Maidstone, Larkfield and Aylesford areas. South East Water began con- struction in Hermitage Lane during July 2011, next to one of the company’s existing opera- tional service reservoirs – large covered storage tanks which
hold treated water before it is pumped to customers’ proper- ties. The new tank can store 10 million litres of water – enough to fill 100,000 baths. Now complete, the two reser-
voirs are working side-by-side, effectively doubling the amount of treated drinking water stor- age available at the site to sup- ply the 21,500 customers in the area.
Joe Yip, delivery manager at
South East Water, said: “The building of this reservoir was es- sential to ensure we can continue to supply clean, safe running water to the Aylesford, Maid- stone and Larkfield areas as the population continues to grow.” Landscaping work has now
been completed to ensure the new reservoir blends in with the existing site.
