Council sells off listed mill pond
MAIDSTONE Council is to sell off the pond at Turkey Mill for £190,000. The council has leased the
pond to Turkey Mill Invest- ments, which owns the rest of the 4.5 acre site, for many years. But the company, which pays
£600 a year to ‘rent’ the pond, haslongwanted to buyittoadd to its portfolio, and has assured its unique character will be maintained. Turkey Mill, once one of Maidstone’s top producing paper mills, is now a thriving business park, while the Or- angery, which overlooks the pond, is a popular venue for
weddings and business events. Thepondispartofalisted garden, and conditions of the sale include not using the land for development, with the ex- ception of temporary buildings for wedding ceremonies. Maidstone Council’s cabinet member for corporate services, Cllr Eric Hotson said: “Talks have been taking place for over a year. The company has wanted to buy the pond’s free- hold for some time. However, we have had to agree the terms of a water management plan, covering the flow of water into Mote Park and the other sur- rounding streams and rivers.”
Home plan for vets’ surgery MICHAEL Ruse has applied to replace a former veteri- nary surgery at 100 Queen Anne Road, Maidstone, with a three-storey home. His planning application, which will be determined by Maidstone Council, says the building has lain dormant for a considerable time and has fallen into disrepair. His supporting statement said: “The surrounding areas
are predominantly commercial; primarily offices, but there are dwellings nearby, notably a development of flats some 35m further down Queen Anne Road. “The idea of mixed uses is therefore already estab- lished. The scale of the new dwelling is very similar to that of a normal town house, but with less bulk, due to the use of a flat roof. “The new dwelling is surrounded by three- and four-
storey buildings, so would not be incongruous in the setting.”
The pond at Turkey Mill is to be sold for £190,000 Charity gets
new home CUTBUSH and Corral has been given permission to re- place a detached garage with a four bedroom home to be attached to 33 Church Street, Maidstone. Maidstone Council granted planning consent but advised the charity to consult Kent Highway Services regarding the required reinstatement of the footway crossing at the access, which is to be closed as part of the scheme.
House scheme revised AREVISED planning proposal to build a sin- gle dwelling on part of the rear garden of 110a Marion Crescent, Maidstone, has been submitted. In December 2009, planning permission
was granted for a new home on the site, which is located behind the rear gardens of 112 to 122 Marion Crescent, and to the rear of properties in Sutton Road. A supporting statement said: “This appli-
cation reduces the footprint of the approved scheme, and simplifies the roof design while maintaining the approved ridge height and the limited fenestration to the side eleva- tions.”
Maidstone Council will determine the planning application.
