Liskeard Show 2012 - a great family day out Message from the president

Our President for 2012 is Mrs Ruth Sargent. As you will read in Ruth’s message, she has been for many years involved with the show, particularly with the domestic section. We hope that she has an enjoyable day.

“When I was elected President for the 2012 show, I could never have predicted that for the first time in the show’s history that we would have to postpone it. This year’s weather has proved challenging for everyone and I hope that it will be kind to us on 8th September. I would like to thank all the volunteers who have put in so much extra work so that the show could go ahead this year.

When I came to live at Merrymeet in 1966 I went to Liskeard Show, then on the site in Liskeard. I started to enter the cookery classes and, as a member of Blunts WI, took part in the WI Cooperative entry. I was then invited on to the Domestic Committee and attended very happy meetings and learnt a lot from the ladies on the Committee.

It is lovely to see the fields transformed into the showground with so much

Message from the chairman

Well, to use some current sporting adages, we were in the starting blocks but rain stopped play! This didn’t stop us and rather than cancel the show, we decided to postpone and run it later. This caused a lot of extra work for many of the association members but we were determined to still hold a show.

So another exciting day out with something to suit all ages is still planned by the Show Association in September.

going on in setting up the show. The day before the show is always busy for everyone including setting out the tables in the domestic tent. Show day is always wonderful seeing all the marvellous entries and acting as a steward hearing the Judges comments. Also, meeting friends and chatting. This year I will walk to the show as I now live near the show field gate and I look forward to opening the show and meeting everyone around the showground.”

Alterations to the layout of the showground has resulted in changes to the parking arrangements and some of the regular displays being relocated to different parts of the site, so don't be surprised if you get directed to a different area to park your vehicle or deliver items to the site and please work with our stewards to make access to the site as easy as possible.

We hope that this will not detract from your enjoyment of the show and have laid on transport within the

show site to make reaching some of the attractions easier.

All shows depend on the weather on the day and we hope that it will make all the hard work in setting everything up worthwhile.

This year we have made provision for visitors to pay by debit card at the gate so this should help entry to the showground.

We hope to see as many people as possible come to our show and enjoy a good day out. Our success depends on public support on the day.
