with Loose Amenities Association About LAA

Scarecrow Festival

One of our most popular events of the year, the Loose Scarecrow Festival, will run this year from Saturday 15 September to Sunday 23 September.

Last year’s festival included over 80 creations, including a giant chicken, Charlie and Lola (pictured right), spacemen with rockets, Spiderman, ballerinas, Miss Muffett, and even one in a set of village stocks!

Teas, home made cakes and gifts will be on sale in the LAA tea tent on Saturday 15 September and Sunday 16 September and in All Saints’ Church on the following weekend.

Entry forms, which include a map and a set of clues, are just £2 and will be available from Loose Post Office, the Chequers Inn and locations around the village from Friday 14 September.

The association, founded in 1952, is a registered charity that is run by its members. We own a large section of the Loose valley, and organise fund raising events throughout the year to enable us to care for it. We also fund other projects within the Loose Valley Conservation Area and the wider Loose parish.

We are very lucky to have so many willing volunteers amongst our membership, who help in lots of different ways, whether it’s baking cakes, working at one of our Sunday work parties in

the valley, herding ducks along the stream at our famous Duck Race or keeping our books balanced. If you’d like to join us you’ll be very welcome.

AGM

The annual general meeting of the association will be held on Wednesday, 17 October at 8pm at King George V Pavilion, Walnut Tree Lane.

‘Exploring Loose Village’ gives a fascinating insight into the history of the village and contains many charming illustrations, including ‘The Change, Old Loose Hill’ (below), drawn in 1887.

Revised for the 2012 edition with the help of the Loose Area History Society, the

46 page booklet reflects the changes that have taken place in Loose since it was first published in 1978.

Including new illustrations by artist Catherine Collett and an updated walking trail, it is on sale at £3.50 from our website or at Loose Post Office.
