Extension plan Parks fly the Green Flag

is refused A PROPOSED two-storey side and rear extension and new front porch at 17 North Way, Penenden Heath, has been blocked by Maidstone Council. The decision statement said

that the proposal “would erode a visually-important space be- tween numbers 15 and 17 North Way, which would sig- nificantly adversely affect the character, appearance and rhythm of the street-scene, and cause harm to the visual amenity of the area”.

Bigger bins at park CLARE Park has got two new large rubbish bins, to replace the smaller one at the bus stop that was frequently filling up. Cllr Stephen Paine said: “We

have been calling for bigger bins for quite some time, so we are pleased with this result. We willmonitor them to make sure they are emptied frequently and kept in good condition.”

Skate ramp repairs SKATERS can once again use the ramps at Whatman Park after Maidstone Council re- placed the damage surface with a temporary covering. They are now looking for a permanent replacement, which could possibly be funded by a developer of new homes in the area.

TWOofMaidstone’s parks have been awarded Green Flags for the next 12 months, as a mark that they are amongst the best in the country. Whatman Park and the lesser- known Clare Park, off Tonbridge Road, have both been awarded the prestigious flags and the Mayor of Maidstone Cllr Rodd Nelson-Gracie hoisted a sym- bolic green flag in Whatman Park to mark the council’s success. Whatman Park, which is part

of the Maidstone Millennium River Park, has been awarded the green flag for the third con- secutive year. Half amile from the town cen-

tre, it has a large adventure play area, a separate “Jolly Roger” area for children, modern sculp- ture, wildlife and pond-dipping
