email changes THE parish council’s website and e-mail addresses have now changed and the old addresses are obsolete.

the clerk is bowdery@boxley- parishcouncil.co.uk and the website is boxleyparishcoun- cil.org.uk. Boxley parish clerk Pauline Bowdery asked residents to be a little understanding as every- thing is carried over to the new website. She said: “Some people can-


not find the new website via search engines. The council is attempting to resolve this, but for a short time residents may need to type in the full address of the website (boxleyparish- council.org.uk). “The council apologies for any inconvenience”.


Press policy agreed THE parish council has agreed a policy designed to ensure ef- fective communication with the public through media cov- erage and other channels. The new press policy covers


press releases, media ap- proaches to parish councillors and other publicity, including notice boards and its website. It requires the council’s pub-


licity to be objective, balanced and non-political.


Allowances rise IN view of the rising cost of petrol and other overheads, it was agreed that the Boxley parish councillor allowance should be increased for the 2013/14 financial year – the first rise since 2008. The new councillor al- lowance will be £500 a year, with the chairman being al- lowed £609 a year. These al- lowances are subject to normal PAYE deductions. Councillors can opt to claim


none or only part of the al- lowance.


Trees to be replaced TWO apple trees which have been snapped off in the newly- openedWeavering Diamond Ju- bilee Orchard will be replaced during the winter.


Next meeting THE next meeting of the parish council will be at 7.30pm on Monday, September 3, at the Eu- ropean School of Osteopathy.


Bid to renew Quality Council status BOXLEY Parish Council is to apply to renew its accreditation as a Quality Council. The council was first awarded the status, which marks high standards of policies, services and procedures, in 2004, andwas the first in Kent to achieve this distinction. It successfully re- qualified in 2008. To achieve reaccreditation, the council must submit an appli- cation,with supporting evidence, to the National Association of Local Councils. The criteria to be met cover an electoral man- date, annual reports and accounts, staff qualifications and train- ing and the promotion of local democracy and citizenship.

AS no request for a by-election was received, the vacancy for a parish councillor (Boxley South Ward) will be filled by co-op- tion on to the council. Residents of Boxley parish


who are interested in their com- munity and who wish to serve on the parish council should submit their letter of applica- tion and CV to the parish clerk by August 27, 2012. Candidates will be invited to


the council meeting on Monday, September 3, to speak for up to three minutes about them- selves.


Appointment to the position


will be by a majority decision of the parish council. Parish council chairman Ivor Davies said: “Whoever fills this vacancy will find it inspiring and rewarding. “Whilst we can’t promise an- other royal visit (in the near fu-


ture, at least), the council has plenty of plans and ideas for projects that will benefit the community. Work starts


to cut speed KCC received an objection from the police to the speed reduction design- work on Boxley Road and Beechen Bank Road. To meet this objection


and toensureenforcement of the new speed limit, more engineering work had to be included in the original design. Cllr Paul Carter has agreed to finance the addi- tional expenditure, match- ing the parish council’s contribution. Thework is nowplanned


to start on August 28, 2012.


Community fund THE council has in its budget £10,000 for projects suggested by members of the community, be they groups or individuals. If you have an idea for a com- munity project or an issue you want to solve, the parish coun- cil may be able to help with funding. Further information can be

Clamping down on nuisance bikers


FOLLOWING concerns ex- pressed by parish councillors, residents and walkers, police have increased patrols at Pil- grims Way in Boxley and Box- leyWarrentotacklethe anti-social use of off-road mo- torbikes. The parish council has con- sistently complained about nui- sance bikers in this area. On June 30, two motorcyclists were stopped and issued with


warnings, advising them that they risk having their vehicle seized if they repeated the of- fence. A third motorcyclist was stopped from entering the na- ture reserve and given advice about the use of his motorbike off-road. This stretch of the Pilgrims


Way is a restricted by-way and part of the nature reserve has been designated by Natural


England as a site of special sci- entific interest (SSSI). Police plan further patrols


and have warned that bikes used in a way which causes an- noyance can be seized. Complaints have also been re- ceived about inconsiderate be- haviour of mountain bike riders. The parish council is contacting mountain bike asso- ciations to remind their mem- bers not to go off the paths.
