and the journey to rehabilitate and preserve the orangutans and conserve their habitat began. The Appeal now strives to protect remaining wild populations of orangutans by providing support and funding for projects across Malaysian and Indonesian Borneo; and by raising awareness of the plight of this great ape across the globe.
We need your help! We need to raise vital funding to support the work we are involved in, and YOU can help in so many ways! By getting involved, you can be safe in the knowledge that you are directly contributing to Orangutan conservation. If you wish to volunteer for the Orangutan Appeal UK head office, please let us know. It looks great on your CV or University application too!
Adopting one of the young orangutans is another excellent way to help us with our current projects and get something back in return for your support. Your adoption pack will include a certificate, full history profile, photographs of your adopted baby and the latest Appeal newsletter. Children’s packs include an Appeal pencil case and activity sheets. Every adoptive parent will be sent an update on their baby’s progress, plus their latest photographs and the next newsletter in the series after 6 months.
We need to continue generating funds to help us support the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. In addition to providing new enclosures and new facilities, we are committed to supplying experienced UK veterinarians in order to provide ongoing medical care to the young orphans at the Centre. This is extremely costly, and a necessity to ensure the orangutans are in good health at all times.
A new home for “Nonong” We are also trying to raise money to help provide a new enclosure for one of the orangutans at the centre, named Nonong. At four years of age, she contracted Cerebral Malaria which left her paralysed down one side, sadly resulting in her being unable to return to the wild. We would like to build Nonong an enclosure that is suitable for her needs whilst providing an opportunity for her to pass her valuable skills onto the young babies on the rehabilitation scheme.
If you think you can help us reach our fundraising target to build Nonong’s new sanctuary home, get in touch! There are loads of ways you can help us, from running car boot sales in your local area to doing a bungee jump or even sky diving! Check out our website www.orangutan-
