Twohundred peopleattendedthe tenthannualconferenceheldby theLeaseholdAdvisoryService (LEASE) in London inMay. Alan Collett, then President-


elect of the Royal Institutionof Chartered Surveyors(RICS)andthe first fromtheresidential property sector foralmost four decades, gave thekeynote address.Hestressed theimportanceofthe RICS as a consumer-focused regulator for the surveyingprofession. Theaddresswasfollowed


withweeks to go until theopeningceremonyof thelondon 2012 olympic games, alleyesare focused on thenewpostcodeofe20 in east london.oncethe gamesare over, from2013 theareaknownas east Villagewill providehomes formorethan6,000 people. the olympic delivery Authority aimsto create what it describesas“a lastingresidentiallegacy” in thearea, although the asking prices ofhomes will not be known for sometime. thenewneighbourhood will boast 3,500 newhomes, mostofwhich will be flats. these will be a combination of properties mainly for privaterentand affordable homeseither to rent or buy. theareawill also include educationand health care facilities, parkland, and public spaceaswell as more than 30 shops, cafes andrestaurants.during the games the flats in east Villagewill behometo the16,000 athletesand officialsfrom200 countries coming together forthe firstolympics to be heldin london since 1948.
