CityEditorial

Perhaps the theft of our summer by the jet stream will be compensated by the truly exciting spectacle of the Olympics and all its associated celebrations. City solicitors, no doubt, will be present at many of the events, soaking up the atmosphere and trying to ignore their Blackberrys for a few hours.

Our immediate Past Master, Alderman John White has celebrated the end of his term of office with attendance at a different series of excellent events. This edition carries two of his reports on two special events: the cover article describes the Company’s presence at the Queen’s Jubilee Banquet in Westminster Hall, and a lengthier article infra is a hugely entertaining and also informative account of the Pardon of our Patron Saint, St Yves.

Whilst on the subject of Masters

(rather than relics) we wish to thank Past Master White most sincerely for an inspirational year in office. We also extend our heartiest congratulations to the new Master, Martin Roberts of Pinsent Masons LLP. We wish Martin every success in his year as Master, which has already got off to a flying (or walking) start, with a tour of the City on foot, led by a professional guide. A report of the AGM at which Martin became Master also appears in this edition.

EDITORIAL BOARD

And finally, advance notice of some changes in City Solicitor. We now publish an enhanced electronic version, in landscape format with hyperlinks and turning pages. We intend to build this out to a fully operational iPad compatible electronic newsletter. We welcome all feedback from our readers on such developments.

It remains for us to wish you all an enjoyable summer break.
