Livery Companies host Diamond Jubilee Lunch for the Queen


Some of you will have noticed that a lunch was given at Westminster Hall on Tuesday 5th June after the service at St Paul’s Cathedral to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. This was a splendid event both relaxed and traditional: quintessentially British. The City Solicitors were happy to host a table.


The idea behind the lunch was to involve a wide group representing different


parts of the nation, and


what better way than to focus on the Livery Companies as many draw their members from the whole Kingdom, they represent a wide range of trades, crafts and professions, they raise much money for many different charities and they are affiliated to many service units, including St John’s Ambulance and uniformed youth groups.


There were 87 out of the 108 Livery Companies represented.


Some


shared tables, but the majority took a whole table. As with much of the Jubilee celebrations, the lunch was not paid for by public funds but privately by the Livery Companies who were regarded as the hosts. In the spirit of inclusiveness, all the Companies tried to share the invitations widely so that it was not a seen to be a lunch for senior Past Masters. So apprentices, students


in receipt of bursaries, other charity- linked beneficiaries, junior members of


affiliated Armed Forces’ units and ordinary Livery members who have contributed significantly were amongst the diners.


So the City Solicitors’ formed as follows:
