Hard on the heels of DSV’s announcement that it was to set up a pan-European palletised freight network, UK network Pall-Ex has announced the launch of its own European network covering 38 countries, including Turkey and Russia. Deliveries on Pall-Ex Europe


could take as little as two days, depending on the destination. The operator claims that its pallet-based tariff will be more predictable than dimension-based pricing and the service will be fully integrated with Pall-Ex’s TWINE IT real-time track and trace and online proof of delivery system. The company’s managing


director, Adrian Russell, said: “Now more than ever, customers on both a national and international level are looking for the most cost effective and reliable way to transport goods to Europe. We’ve created a competitive service that

Ex principles of efficiency and unrivalled customer service. “Trade between countries is


key to growth at the moment and we’re pleased to be in a strong position to help facilitate this and to keep freight moving across the continent. In addition, this new service allows our members to increase their own offering and strengthen their own customer- base in the process.” Adrian Russell told FBJ that the


pan-European network would be based on hub to hub trunking rather than a central European hub,


at least for the foreseeable future. However, a central hub might be considered as a solution at a later stage to cope with ‘overspill’ freight. The new system would also be based on network members’ existing resources, he added. “Many of our members already have international freight that they are delivering on wheels and we’ll piggyback on that. We’re not going to go out and buy trailers, at least not in the short term.” The pan-European system


would be launched at about the end of June, with the start of pan-European trunking services with sister networks in the other European countries. Meanwhile, Pall-Ex is pushing


ahead with its programme to set up domestic pallet networks in other countries. The French system is planned to go into operation at the end of the third quarter of this year and a master licence agreement for Poland is scheduled to be signed in early July, which would allow operations to start in the first quarter of 2013. Negotiations are also going on with principals in Scandinavia, Germany, the Benelux, Bulgaria and Turkey, with 15 network agreements envisaged to be in place by 2015. Mr Russell added: “We have even


had interest in our model from Asia and South Africa.” Pall-Ex already offers a European


service to and from the UK through agreements with forwarders such as Schenker, Kuehne & Nagel and Delamode. Adrian Russell


Pall-Ex unveils French plans


Pall-Ex has revealed details of its planned French network due to go into operation by the end of the year. It will be operated by “an


experienced and well-respected partner from the French logistics sector” and will be based on a hub in central France. Pall-Ex founder and chief


executive Hilary Devey said: “Although not the first pallet network in France, I believe that we’ll be the only ones to truly maximise the entrepreneurial solution that networks offer. In the UK, we’re the leading operator with over 100 member depot sites across the country and now


is the time to start building similar foundations in France.” Anand Assi, project director

service based on a hub near Stuttgart (see FBJ 3 2012, page 1). It has already been operating a pilot system covering 17 countries and plans to step this up to 25 countries. Of the established UK domestic network operators, Palletways also offers a pan- European service.
