Viola presented us with our 2nd R.H.A.S. Championship (in our opinion one of the most prestigious honours to be won in the breed) both ponies being from the same family, the first “Black Velvet”being a daughter and the latest “Viola”a maternal grand- daughter of our revered matron, Stow Victoria (013591M), sire, Merrymaster of

Netherley (002531S) and

Royal Highland Agricultural Show 2012 Shetland Pony Supreme Champion Sire—Kenrick of Coldenwater (03866S)

Stow Viola(AU0937) Dam—Stow Violet (AJ0683/M06-468)

Dam, Wells Vision (011213M). We had high hopes for Viola from her foal days and really loved watching her mature into a beautiful filly/mare—with tremendous conformation including an outstanding “top line” and a lovely feminine

head—all of which contribute to her very successful show career— unbeaten ever in her class and including championship wins since she was a yearling and also Mountain and Moorland etc. overall championships. We particularly noticed R.H.A.S. Judge Mr. Guy

Hurst’s (from Alresford, Hampshire) summarising for the “Scottish Farmer” viz:- “It was very feminine with tremendous presence, I couldn’t take my eyes off her when she came into the ring.” This comment

summarises Renee and Jim’s opinion of her and also to their great satisfaction that also of many of their fellow exhibitors.

Stow Stud is a small stud from

three ponies (some 30 years ago) to 30 ponies three years ago and now reduced to a present day total of 24 ponies and reluctantly being further reduced to (a mainly Ano Domini induced decision) 12 ponies. Our entire standard stud of ponies is based upon the union of a Netherley stallion (Merry Master) and a Wells mare (Vision). A very small number of ponies

Stow Vulcan

(bred from outwith our stud) have been introduced and this compliments our home bred ponies. “Stow” ponies have been very successful in the show ring and when sold also for others (where their produce have also been extremely successful). We firmly believe that our

Stow Black Velvet

“line breeding” is responsible for the high percentage of Stow winners produced. An examination of our website stowshetlandponystud.com will give an indication of the very high level of success we have had in the show ring. Four colts, ranging from foals to 3 year olds and six (standards and minis) females, ranging from yearlings to mature mares are/will be for sale between now and weaning. Enquiries welcomed.
