Surrey businesses welcome Penningtons to Guildford
Over 90 local business leaders have helped Penningtons Solicitors LLP to celebrate the opening of its new Guildford office
The top 100 law firm hosted a launch party at the MKB Bar, part of Guildford’s Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel, last month for representatives from key business intermediaries – including the region’s main banks, accountants and property advisers. The early evening reception provided a chance to reinforce links with existing contacts and build on opportunities for business referral.
Penningtons’ corporate, commercial property and employment teams have relocated to a new base in the Bishop’s Wharf development, opposite Guildford station. Their decision to move is the result of continued expansion across all parts of Penningtons’ business in Surrey which has contributed to a firmwide increase in turnover of nearly 35% over the last financial year. The rest of Penningtons’ Surrey practice, including the private client, clinical negligence, personal injury, travel and residential property groups, continue
employment teams through the opening of a new office in Cambridge. Penningtons’ private client lawyers have also recently celebrated their inclusion in Private Client Practitioner magazine’s prestigious Top 25 Law Firms 2012 list.

Speaking after the launch party, Simon Bickerdike, who heads Penningtons’ corporate team, said: “We are delighted that so many people were able to join us. The warm welcome from both existing and new contacts in Guildford represents a real vote of confidence. Our move to the commercial centre means that we can offer a broader range of services and
be more accessible. We are also able to provide greater flexibility for all our clients in Surrey, who now have the facility to attend meetings in either of our offices.”

The extension of Penningtons’ Surrey presence has been accompanied by an increasing involvement with community focused initiatives. In April, Penningtons renewed its sponsorship of Surrey Sports Park, an agreement which includes a pledge to back sport for all ages at the complex. In addition, staff from Penningtons will be making their own personal contribution to this year’s historic summer of sport by acting as marshals when the Olympic torch travels through Surrey on July 20.
Penningtons has also reinforced its commitment to the local community by becoming a member of LawWorks. Surrey based lawyers Stephen Law and Kieran Mitchell are leading Penningtons’ association with this charity, which provides pro bono support for individuals and voluntary sector organisations.
