Artists’ view of climate change issue


AN EXHIBITION exploring the theme of climate change –one of the most pressing issues facing the worldtoday–iscurrentlyon showatLlantarnam Grange Arts Centre. With implications not onlyfor


the delicate ecological balance of the planet, butalso forhuman society,the actions we take now in our dailylives will affect both our and our children’s future. The work in the exhibition


reflects howthe individual artists viewthe subject, inspired perhaps by changes seen in their local environment or interna- tionally. Organised by the International Feltmakers Association, Filz- Netzwerk e.V(Germany) and Coordinamento Tessitori (Italy), 50 artists from12 countries were selected fromatotal of 180 sub- missions by an independent pro- fessional jury.The exhibition opened at the Museo del Tessuto, Prato,Italy, inMay2010 and then toured Germanyuntil February 2011. It is nowtouring theUK until June 2012. The exhibition is accompanied


by afull-colour catalogue cover- ing every artist and their work, whichisavailabletobuy at this venue.

Blooming busy week


CAERPHILLYFlower Festival, nowinits eighth year,takes place during apacked weekend forthe town. The festival, whichstarts on Friday,May25, runs forthe whole weekend. The following daythe town


also hosts its food festivaland the Olympic Torch relay. The flower festivalinvolves a


core group of churches,located around the towncentre,which have joined forces to showoff floral displays whichhighlight the spectacular buildings in whichthey are on show. This year nine churches and


five societies are taking part. The churches are accessible


via an open-top hop-on, hop-off bustour. This year’s theme is ‘celebra- tions’ incorporating the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics,as well as looking at those celebra- tory moments thathavetaken place over the years. CaerphillyFood Festivaland
