Golf and tourism are both big business in Scotland - put them together and they’re a world-class brand.


In 2005, a group


of like minded business people involved in the golf and tourism industries formed the East Lothian Golf Tourism Alliance. In five years, membership has grown from 16 to 48 and in conjunction with East Lothian Council, they have launched SCOTLAND’S GOLF COAST which aims to put East Lothian at the forefront of golf tourism.

While St. Andrews may be internationally known as The Home of Golf, Musselburgh Links on SCOTLAND’S GOLF COAST, where golf has been played since 1672, is known locally as The Cradle of Golf.

Since its inception in 1998 East Lothian Investments Ltd has made 216 interest free loans to local businesses totalling over £1.6 million, helping create over 510 jobs and protecting at least a further 1,000.


Under the scheme, East Lothian based start-up businesses or those with less than two years trading history can apply for a 0% interest loan up to £10,000, while established businesses can apply for up to £25,000.


Support can also be given with business planning and cash flow forecasting through the free Business Gateway service in East Lothian.
