Lothian Renewables

With the summer here and your heating system turned off, now is the time for SME’s to evaluate their workplace heating strategy. With most businesses burning oil or gas as a primary heating source you will be very well aware of the effect on the bottom line as a result of every increasing fuel costs.

The RHI, Renewable Heat Incentive, is now available for commercial installations. This government funded incentive is aimed at reducing the countries fossil fuel use and carbon dioxide emissions. The RHI scheme payments can be made to businesses who switch to a renewable source of heating such as a Biomass Heating system with the combined saving from a less expensive fuel and regular RHI payments of £1000’s per year. The Energy Savings Trusts Small Business Loan scheme can allow many businesses to borrow the installation cost of the renewable heating system interest free for up to 8 years. By way of an example a business with a heat demand such as a small hotel can expect to save five to six thousand pounds per year by changing to a renewable heating source. North Berwick based Lothian Renewable Ltd can provide information, design, installation and servicing of biomass heating systems together with assisting clients through the RHI application process.

Hangar Framing

Former police sergeant turned artist, Kirsten Boston, has unveiled her new gallery and framing shop at Fenton Barns.

Over the past 10 years Hangar Framing has grown from humble beginning in a tiny space at the retail park outside North Berwick to this new gallery, shop and workshop.

Kirsten, herself a talented painter, has successfully built links with the local arts and business communities and co-launched the North Berwick Art Fair in 2011, creating an invaluable platform for local artists.

In addition to bespoke framing services, Kirsten also sells paintings, jewellery, crafts, high quality artists materials and provides fine art printing.

The East Lothian influence is evident – with many paintings celebrating the coastal and agricultural life at the heart of the county.

Kirsten said: “One of the most exciting things about running Hangar Framing is the opportunity to discover new artists and support them by providing an opportunity to showcase and sell their work.

“The last ten years have been a lot of work but it has been amazing. I have found fantastic support from staff, local artists and the business community, and we are thrilled to open our new gallery during this landmark year.”
