has seen exceptional influxes into Cornwall at this time – it is believed they are non-breeding welsh birds that are dispersing from their home range looking for new territories. they cross the sea from South wales into Cornwall; here the birds re-orientate themselves and head back up through the west Country on their way back home and this results in many sightings throughout the region. indeed last year i saw two birds in quick succession on the Devon/Somerset border in early June. they can turn up anywhere but look for them around the edge of Dartmoor on sunny but windy days, on the coast and along major river valleys. in addition to the welsh birds, occasional influxes occur from iberia, which add to the sightings in our area.
