Ranger Message Welcome to BC Parks!

Although our centennial year in 2011 is over, there is no need to stop celebrating! Te spectacular environments of our park system are ageless; the opportunities for exploration remain exciting and worthy of continued celebration. For the next 100 years, BC Parks will continue to ensure that future generations can discover, appreciate and celebrate our parks too.

I grew up camping with family and friends in the provincial parks of southern B.C. Tey were gateways to adventure: fishing at Conkle Lake Park; swimming at Okanagan Lake Park; or hiking Manning Park’s Windy Joe. As I grew up, I discovered backcountry freedom and the wilderness of places like Monkman or Nanika-Kidprice Provincial Parks, where you can hike or canoe for days and not see another soul. Now that I am a ranger for BC Parks, my understanding of provincial parks as well as my appreciation for them continues to evolve.

Between the covers of this publication is information to help you seek outdoor adventure, fresh air and a little fun within B.C.’s provincial parks. Wherever you visit, I suggest you discover something new this year. Visit a new park, hike a new trail, explore a new area of your favourite park, or perhaps, take time to learn how the natural environment works to create and sustain these amazing places. I hope your appreciation for our province’s parks and natural environments continues to evolve too.

On behalf of all BC Parks staff and park facility operators, we look forward to seeing you in the parks in 2012!
