Welcoming the torch to Maidstone

Maidstone has been chosen for a major role in the lead up to this summer’s London 2012 Olympics.

The Olympic Torch will arrive in our borough on Thursday July 19. There will be an official evening celebration with locally and nationally organised entertainment and a cauldron lighting ceremony at Leeds Castle.

The next morning, Friday July 20 the World’s attention will turn to Mote Park as the torch is relit and leaves the county town via the town centre and by boat along the River Medway.

Tickets for the free evening celebration will be limited to 8,000 so the council is holding a free community concert at Mote Park at the same time. The Leeds Castle celebration will be beamed onto a big screen and there will be lots of other entertainment.
