...pony clubber Anne Robinson who broke her wrist after being knocked over while leading a horse into a stall.


Congratulations to Kristen Cochran (former Equiery staff er) and Brian Motz of Hagerstown on their recent engagement.


Congratulations to foxhunter Marybeth Webster (Annapolis) and Ray Gall, who were married on January 28.


Maryland Will Miss Hanna G. Bragg of Union Bridge died on


February 23 at the age of 21 from injuries sus- tained in a motorcycle accident. Bragg was an event rider who graduated from Linganore High School in 2008 and attended Caplin University.


Bowie Marley George of Sykesville died


on February 17. George was an avid point-to- point follower and enjoyed horse racing in gen- eral. She was a distant relative of Oden Bowie, who was Maryland Governor from 1869 to 1872 as well as a former president of the Mary- land and Pimlico Jockey Clubs. George was a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps dur- ing WWII, serving in both the Panama Canal Zone and Pacifi c theatre. Sondra Bender of Bethesda died on Feb-


ruary 22 at the age of 78. Bender was an owner and breeder of T oroughbred racehorses out of her Frederick farm, Glade Valley. She was the owner of Southern Appeal, who fi nished 13th in the 1986 Kentucky Derby and Foufa’s Warrior, who fi n- ished seventh in the 2003 Preakness Stakes. Several


of her horses have won at the Maryland Mil- lion where she is atop the owner rankings with fi ve victories; she has bred four winners. T e 2002 season was Bender’s best year when she captured 13 stakes races with seven diff erent horses and fi nished 53rd on the North Ameri- can money list with $1.3 million. She bred nine stakes winners that year. Camille Baumgardner died on March 4 at the age of 50. Baumgardner was an active Poto- mac Valley Dressage Association member, both as a rider and volunteer. Billie Ann Gardner Smith died on February


21. She was the sister of Bobbie Gibbon and Butch Gardner. Peyton Skipwith “Skip” Cochran, Jr. died


on March 1. He was a former MFH of Green Spring Valley Hounds and the Master of the Calf Pasture Beagles. Cochran was one of the founding members of MAWC and the Land Preservation Trust, which created Shawan Downs, currently used for a variety of equestrian ac- tivities including the Green Spring Valley Hounds Point-to-Point and MCTA Horse Trials. He served on the Governor’s Wildlife Commis- sion for several years and was also a former president of the board of trustees for the Garrison Forest School.

A fond farewell to... ...longtime Equiery distributor Bunny Junction in Seaford, DE, which has closed its doors; ...Beth and Ray Wheeler, who have moved their eventing business to Aiken, South Carolina.


February 17 at the age of 63. Moberly grew up in Virginia and was very active in the Mary- land/Virginia horse community as a rider and instructor. Barry Trotter died on March 4 after suc- cumbing to a yearlong battle with leukemia. Trotter worked with Graham Motion at the Fair Hill Training Center-based Herringswell Stables.
